The Funds Mission
The Fund and its MANAGER adheres to a publicly announced mission
statement:
"Helping talented people communicate
their vision to a wider audience."
The statement encapsulates the core values of the Fund and its
MANAGER:
Special Emphasis on People
An investment in creative industries is somewhat different from
traditional investing. All capital investors evaluate the people who run the
factories, who are responsible for management, and who ensure wealth creation
for owners. But for capital investors in the creative industries the people
are the investment. This places special ethical demands on the Fund.
An old Greek story tells of a merchant ship that gets thrown into a storm. As
the situation gets worse the captain demands that all the passengers must throw
their belongings overboard. As the merchants lament losing their valuable goods
one man calmly throws all his possessions into the sea. The captain asks him
why he is not upset. The man replies: "These are things, but everything
of real value I carry in my head."
This is the fundamental truth about human capital. It is the most valuable resource
we have. The versatility of human capital means that it is a most liquid asset.
Properly nurtured it is the source of long term sustainable well being.
In order to be an attractive partner to creative people with talent the Fund
must live up to their ethical expectations. The ethical positioning of the fund
is not just good public relations it forms a major part of the Funds competitive
advantage! It is also evident that a Fund concentrating on the creative industries
will be under unprecedented public scrutiny.
The Fund realizes that as it is investing in people and their capabilities it
has a special responsibility to nurture and develop human resources; that is
talent. The operating principles of the Fund must be of the highest ethical
standard. The Fund will view its investments as long-term responsibilities that
will ultimately maximize the benefits for investment targets, investors and
society as a whole.
